The first step towards autonomous tree sampling

One of DeLeaves’ co-founders, Hughes La Vigne, recently published an article in which he lays the groundwork for autonomous tree sampling using drones. Specifically, the article showcases the prototype version of a branch detection drone designed to assist the UAV pilot in the sample selection process. Taking into account the nearby branches’ position, size and orientation, the drone will display the best-suited available options and then automatically align itself towards the selected foliage target, ready for the DeLeaves sampling tool to collect it. Interestingly, this breakthrough has the potential to enable large-scale sampling operations.
